Първи април!! Днес в arXiv има нови статии с материал за няколко нобелови награди! Едната награда е за хумор и предстои да бъде учредена....
Но да карам по ред.
Сутринта на всеки делничен ден аз и хиляди колеги – не само астрономи, а от всички дялове на физиката – бързаме да погледнем новостите в сървера за препринти arXiv. Това е място, където човек може да си пусне статията безплатно и място, където всеки може да погледне статиите на колегите си. Разчита се на почтеност – нещо, на което политиците биха могли да се научат от хората, които използват arXiv. Например, добра практика е да се напише в полето с коментарите какъв е статусът на статията – изпратена в списание, приета или е минала примерно част от процеса на рецензиране. От това зависи доколко ще сериозно ще бъде възприето съдържанието на статията, Някой хора откровено пишат – това е ръкопис, току що изпратен в списание, коментари са добре дошли. Проява на уважение към списанията е да не се публикуват напълно редактираните крайни версии на статиите – защото списанията са вложили в тях редакторска работа, понякога – когато английският не е роден език на авторите, какъвто е моят случай – и езикова редакция.
Хуморът е на почит сред физиците. Преди няколко десетилетия в България излязоха три книги: „Физиците се  шегуват“, „Физиците продължават да се шегуват“ и „Физиците не престават да се шегуват“ – сборници с шеги от и за физици. Пример: Алберт Айнщайн обичал филмите на Чарли Чаплин. Веднъж той писал в писмо до Чаплин: „Вашият филм „Златната треска” е разбираем за всички по света и Вие непременно ще станете велик човек. Айнщайн.” Чаплин отговорил: „Аз се възхищавам от Вас още повече. Вашата теория на относителността никой в света не я разбира, а Вие все пак станахте велик човек. Чаплин.”

Detection of an extraterrestrial technical civilisation on the extrasolar planet GJ 1132 b

Абстракт: We report the detection of whisky in the atmosphere of the extrasolar super-Earth planet GJ 1132 b from transmission spectroscopic data. It is seen both in atmospheric absorption as well as in chromospheric emission, the latter probably due to the intense heating of the co-rotating planet’s day-side surface. This detection cannot be explained using natural sources of alcohol, implying that there must be a technically advanced civilisation – possibly originating from the neighboring habitable planet GJ 1132 c – that is engaged in massive distilling operations accompanied by high levels of industrial pollution. The reason for the necessarily vast scale of production is either to produce rocket fuel for an interplanetary economy or, more likely, for an unusually high level of personal consumption. The latter hypothesis suggests a novel explanation for the Fermi Paradox (the lack of indirect or direct contact with extraterrestrials): a technically versed civilisation would be incapable of achieving the higher technical levels necessary for the development of a detectable radio signature – much less interstellar travel – at the suggested rates of consumption.

Това всъщност е съвсем сериозно статистическо изследване на статиите, които се публикуват на въпросния сървер. Забележителна е нарастващата му популярност (и продуктивност на физиците): ако през 2009 година средният темп на публикуване е бил около 30 астрономически статии на ден, то през 2024 година той е нараснал до около 42 статии на ден (Дъглас Адамс е знаел нещо). Това може да се види на горния панел на Фигура 2 и е за всички дялове на астрономията. Разбира се, човек не трябва да чете всичко, а преди всичко нужното и по специалността му, но все пак увеличението, което дори не покрива целия период на моята собствена кариера, е забележително.

Resolving the baryon assymmetry with RATS

Aims. We propose the existence of anti-stars to solve the baryon assymetry in our new Reasonable Antimatter Theory of Stars (RATS). On the structure of open clusters: geometric vs geomantic

Understanding our place in the universe is an eternal quest. Through the analysis of the 3D structures of 66 nearby open clusters using Gaia DR3 data, we discovered an intriguing pattern: most clusters show their elongation directions pointing at the Sun, suggesting that the Solar System might just be the universe’s favorite spot, a cosmic feng shui hotspot! This surprising result hints at a subtle blend of geometry and geomancy.

В повечето научни списания публикациите не са безплатни, плаща се такса на страница за обработка. Парите идват от грантовете на автротие. До скоро едно английско астрономическо списание – Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society – беше безплатно и ако човяк няма грант, винаги можеше да изпрати статията си там, и то беше достатъчно престижно, но от известно време и те започнаха да искат пари.
