The fake "news" about James Cameron plagiarizing Strugatsky brothers" "Noon Universe" (see for more http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noon_Universe) made it"s way to the West:

Cameron rejected the accusations, and ABS even quoted partially the statement of Boris Strugatsky, the surviving half of the Strugatsky brothers writing tandem who also rebuffs the plagiarism statement. Here I translate in English his full statement. I also cite bellow the original text, and give a link to the source.

Personally, I find no similarities, aside from the name of the planet, and the fact it is covered by a jungle. The name Na"vi is a name of species/nation/tribe in the movie, Nava (in Russian: Нава) is the name of a single character in the books. This is where the similarities end. The "Noon Universe" and the Earth of the movie are as far as an utopia and a dystopia can be (although in the case of the "Noon Universe" the utopia-dystopia distinction is not straightforward).

    There is a strange story in the Internet news. More and more news pieces appear, like circles on water, but they ere all built to the same scheme: they claim that you accused the Avatar"s director in plagiarism. The details doesn"t make sense...
What is going on?

Answer: I know of most of these publications. I already stated my opinion about them on the Internet, but I can make yet another official statement.
    Recently, some publications on the Internet have appeared, claiming that I have accused the creators of the movie "Avatar" in plagiarism, in particular using the items from the works of Strugatsky brothers about the planet Pandora, and the various adventures on that planet.
    Hereby, I clearly state the following:
    1. I have never accused the creators of "Avatar" in plagiarism, and I don"t intend to do so in the future.
    2. I have not seen the movie "Avatar", and I don"t know anything about it, aside from the fact that the action in the movie takes place "on a monster-infested planet named Pandora"
    3. All - attributed to me - statements concerning this movie, cited on the Internet are somebody else"s fabrication (made for a reason I cannot explain)
    Long live the Internet, a source of accurate information!

    Какая-то непонятная история с интернетовскими новостями. Как круги по воде, появляются всё новые публикации, но все они строятся по одной схеме, рассказывая, что Вы обвинили режиссёра фильма «Аватар» в плагиате, сопровождая какими-то нелепыми подробностями...
    Что это такое?

    Большая часть этих материалов мне знакома. Несколько раз я по этому поводу уже высказывался в И-нете, но могу и еще разок сделать официальное заявление.
    В последнее время в И-нете появились сообщения о том, что я, Б.Стругацкий, обвиняю создателей фильма «Аватар» в сознательном плагиате, а именно – в использовании материалов сочинений братьев Стругацких, касающихся планеты Пандоры и разнообразных приключений на ней.

    Настоящим имею совершенно недвусмысленно заявить следующее:
    1. Никогда и нигде создателей фильма «Аватар» я в плагиате не обвинял и обвинять впредь отнюдь не намерен.
    2. Фильма «Аватар» я не видел и ничего о нем не знаю, кроме того, что действие там происходит «на планете чудовищ Пандора».
    3. Все, - якобы мои, - сентенции по поводу этого фильма, приводимые в И-нете, являются чьей-то беспардонной выдумкой (цель которой мне не понятна).
    Да здравствует Интернет, кладезь достоверных сведений!
